Hygiene Visits & Prevention

A preventive program is a cooperative effort by the patient, Dr. Ford, and dental TEAM to preserve the natural dentition and supporting structures by preventing the onset, progress, and recurrence of dental diseases and conditions.

Our value to your healthy smile begins with a hygiene visit that always incorporates your individual needs that are customized for your health benefits.  Based upon your previous health issues and current health status and knowledge of your prescription medication, vitamins and herbs we create a preventive, maintenance appointment to continue the healthy state of your dentition and gingivia (gums).  Preventing dental disease starts at home with good oral hygiene and a balanced nutrition.  Also, with our extensive periodontal knowledge we are able to create any non-surgical periodontal treatments that may be necessary to recreate a healthy dentition, bone and supporting tissues.  There are a wide variety of treatments that we can do for you to accomplish our goals of health maintenance.

Depending upon your interest of natural products we can incorporate natural mineral pastes into your hygiene protocols and proactively treat decay and periodontal disease at the earliest stages--before any lesion or permanent bone loss is ever noticed.  This is all based upon your individual needs and wants.  Please discuss this with us directly and candidly--we are here to listen to what you would like us to achieve for YOU!  We are a team in the alliance to promote, restore, and maintain your oral health now and forever.

You are an integral part of that team, so our dental plaque (biofilm) control program includes oral hygiene aids, antimicrobial control of dental plaque (biofilm), adjuncts to flossing, dietary counseling, laser use in caries prevention, gingival curettage and most importantly dental education.  With your commitment to prevention and treatment at the earliest stages of periodontal diseases we as a team can control and prevent permanent destruction of your periodontal bone and supporting tissues.

Prevention also includes regular dental exams in order to detect any concerns at the earliest stages, regular hygiene maintenance visitsand any necessary digital x-ray images.  Dental sealants, fluoride/natural mineral pastes and preventive dental lasers are utilized to detect decay at the earliest stages -- we always want to use the most advanced, preventive adjuncts that help protect the dentition so you can have your natural teeth for your lifetime.

Prevention always helps avoid serious and costly dental problems and is the key to having a healthy, confident, and beautiful smile.
